Bude is the most northerly town in Cornwall and is noted for it's extensive sands and surf. To the south nothing impedes the relentless surge of the Atlantic rollers onto the beaches which have become popular ith surfers from all over the world. Surrounded by magnificent cliff scenery, the modern holiday town of Bude makes an excellent centre for exploring the local countryside.
The coastal scenery surrounding the beaches on the Bude area is Quite stunning. There is plenty of interesting bird life for the dedicated twitcher and many lovely walks along the cliff tops. The cliff faces are used by rock climbers.
There is plenty to see and do and the area is served with excellent shops, restaurants and bars. The unique sea lock and canal provides a pleasurable walking experience and Bude Museum is well worth visiting. The museum is situated by Bude's canal and houses collections of photographs, salvaged objects from many wrecks and a detailed history of Bude's maritime past.
Bude was once notorious for its shipwrecks, between 1824 and 1674 more than 80 ships were wrecked on this coast.
