CRACKINGTON HAVEN GALLERY

Set between imposing cliffs at the end of a narrow valley and backing right onto the village is Crackington Haven beach. As the name suggests the beach offers shelter, but it's only comparative to the rest of the exposed coastline. In fact in the 19th century it was used as a harbour of sorts with boats simply parking on the beach.

The beach itself is fairly rocky and mostly covered in shingle. It is sheltered from the wind to some extent by the adjacent 400 ft high cliffs which go on to form some of the highest in Cornwall.

Nearby St. Genny's church, situated at Penkenna Point, is dedicated to the fifth century St. Genesius and is the last resting place of many shipwrecked sailors . The church has superb coastal views north to Bude and Mormenstow. Parts of the church date back to the eleventh century and the cliff top building occupies the site of an earlier, Saxon church. St Genny's was restored in the Victorian era.
